Bay of Plenty Tertiary Education Partnership

The University of Waikato and Bay of Plenty Polytechnic have worked together since 1998 to increase tertiary education opportunities in the Western Bay of Plenty. Recently Bay of Plenty Polytechnic and Waiariki Institute of Technology merged to become Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology.

Our institutions are continuing to work closely together to offer a comprehensive suite of programmes on the Tauranga campuses - Windermere Campus and the Bongard Centre. Through this partnership you can enter bridging, certificate, diploma and degree programmes. This "staircase" approach provides pathways to life-long learning opportunities for school leavers, mature students new to study, or people well on the way towards reaching their career goals.

The Bay of Plenty Tertiary Education Partnership also includes Whakatane-based Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi. The Partnership includes research projects, providing a unique collaborative approach to tertiary education in the Bay of Plenty.

Seamless Integration

Whether you're enrolled in a University of Waikato or Toi Ohomai programme, your on-campus experience will be seamless. You can begin with Toi Ohomai qualifications that provide you with credit towards a University degree, or start directly in a university programme.

Classes are taught at the Windermere Campus and at the Bongard Centre in Tauranga's CBD.

Many classes are taught face-to-face. For others, video conferencing connects our Tauranga classrooms to courses in Hamilton as they are being taught, so you get exactly the same lectures and study materials as your Hamilton classmates. You can interact with your lecturers in Hamilton via video conference link as well as by email and phone.

In addition to first-class teaching facilities, library, computer labs and learning support services, you can enjoy access to Toi Ohomai's Aquatic and Fitness centre, cafés and childcare.
