Registering your Student ID card

Follow the instructions on the kiosk screen to activate your card. Your Waikato username will be displayed; it will be a combination of your initials followed by a number. You will be asked to enter a password of 6 to 16 characters (both letters and numbers).

We recommend that you also choose a secret question and answer. Passwords expire after 180 days. You will be reminded via email and online announcements to change your password. If you don't change your password, your account will be locked and you will be unable to access it. If you can't access your account, please contact the ITS Service Desk at (07) 838 4002 or email help@waikato.ac.nz.

Once your student ID card is activated, an email will be sent (to your Waikato email address) with a PIN for use with Waikato IT systems. If you are studying in Tauranga you will also be emailed a PIN for use on Bay of Plenty Polytechnic campuses.

If you forget your Waikato pin:

Simply re-register your card at a Student ID Registration Kiosk (the PIN will be emailed to you) or contact the Security Office (0800 WAIKATO ext 4444). If you are studying in Tauranga, you can also go to Registration Kiosk and the Waikato PIN will be emailed to you followed by the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic PIN.

Take care not to damage the magnetic strip:

On the back of the card or bend the card in any way. If you wish to attach the card to a key-ring, punch a hole only through the grey box shown on the card.

If you lose or damage your card:

A new one can be issued at the Student Information Centre in the Gateway (on the Hamilton campus) or ordered at one of the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic Information Centres. You will be charged $10 for a new card, and your old card will be disabled so that others can't use it.
